Are we seeing ourselves, or just our reflection in others?
In the new certification program, Lesson 3
Master mentions the mind that has been placed on us by the other. Similarly in studies, the term looking "Looking-Glass Self" describes the version of us we begin to believe through the reactions, labels, and expectations of others. "Self-Appraisal" is the quieter process of learning to evaluate ourselves from within instead of only through external reflection.
Many of us don’t realize how much our identity was shaped by mirrors we never chose.
A child called ‘too sensitive’ may grow into an adult who suppresses emotion.
Someone constantly praised for achievement may confuse worth with performance.
Someone repeatedly dismissed may stop trusting their own voice.
The issue isn’t external feedback alone, it's when other people’s perceptions become our only source of truth.
Healthy growth includes both:
• the courage to receive reflection
• and the ability to develop internal clarity
At Positive Leader, we believe awareness begins when we stop asking:
‘How am I being seen?’
and start asking:
‘Who am I becoming despite the conditioning?’
Self-awareness is not built only through reflection, it’s also built through conscious self-appraisal.
