But letting go and giving up aren’t the same. One sets down what isn’t ours to carry, but we keep going. The other sets down everything, including the part of us that still believes things can shift.
The difference isn’t in what we stop, it’s the inner action underneath which matters.

Sometimes, it’s the pause between the feeling and the reaction.
That pause is where we begin.
When we’re more aligned within ourselves, we don’t have to perform, please, defend, or react as quickly. We can notice what’s happening, choose what matters, and respond from a steadier place.

This is called Affect Labeling, the practice of putting feelings into words. Research shows that when we accurately label what we feel, the brain begins to regulate emotional intensity more effectively. What felt overwhelming becomes more understandable. More manageable. More conscious.
This small shift creates distance between us and the reaction.
Without awareness, emotions tend to run on autopilot. With awareness, we gain choice.
Affect labeling doesn’t mean suppressing emotions. It means relating to them consciously instead of becoming consumed by them.
