The Borrowed Self

The Borrowed Self
Neuroscience suggests the self we experience arrives roughly 80 milliseconds late — the realities we perceive are constructed, not live feed.*

Osho points somewhere deeper: perhaps the material used to build that self was borrowed from others who were themselves borrowed.

So what’s actually underneath?

The dissolution of that constructed self can feel terrifying. Like freefall with no floor.

Maybe this is why the presence of Masters who have crossed that threshold matters — not as a crutch, but as evidence for the nervous system that the other side is not annihilation.

It’s actually where something else seems possible — A way of being that doesn’t need to defend or perform. That simply reflects, responds, and flows with life as it arrives.

We don’t know exactly what that is. But may we keep living, and keep watching.

*Research:
In Benjamin Libet’s experiments, participants’ brains showed electrical activity initiating movement up to 500 milliseconds before they were consciously aware of deciding to move — suggesting the conscious “I” may be a witness to decisions, not the one making them.

yeahhh! I find it fascinating that truth of the Masters can be inquired through so many perceptions as its universal. 🙏🌺 that’s the part I love about the post you created with the cert course, Rumi’s quote and the research too! ❤️
